Made with intention.
I don't believe good design has to mean buying something brand new.
A large part of what I do begins with looking at what already exists — a forgotten textile, a piece of furniture with good bones, a vintage fabric or a material that might otherwise be overlooked — and imagining what it could become.
My collections are deliberately small and often made from limited or reclaimed materials. That means things won't always be perfectly uniform, and sometimes there may only be one.
That's rather the point.

01
USING WHAT ALREADY EXISTS
I love materials with a past.
Where possible, I work with vintage, pre-loved, reclaimed and surplus textiles and materials, giving them another life rather than starting from new.
This might mean transforming a forgotten fabric into table linen, turning an overlooked textile into clothing, or giving an old piece of furniture a completely different character.
I like the marks, textures and imperfections that come with materials that have already lived a little.

02
SMALL SCALE BY DESIGN
Samantha Moller-Bowden is a small independent studio, not a mass-production business.
Collections are intentionally limited and made in small quantities. Some pieces are completely one-off, while others may be produced in very small numbers depending on the materials available.
I don't want to make hundreds of something simply because I can.
Instead, I would rather make fewer things that have a reason to exist.

03
CONSIDERED MATERIALS
I choose materials based on their quality, character and suitability for the piece I'm making.
When working with new materials, I aim to choose good-quality fabrics and components that are made to last, rather than treating everything as disposable.
Where reclaimed or vintage materials are used, I'll tell you wherever I can. If a piece has a story, I think you should know it.

04
PACKAGING
I keep packaging as simple as possible.
Where practical, I reuse suitable packaging materials and choose recyclable or reusable materials for sending orders. I try to avoid unnecessary plastic and excessive packaging while still making sure your order arrives safely.
Because beautiful things deserve a little theatre when they arrive — just not a mountain of rubbish afterwards.

05
A WORK IN PROGRESS
I'm a small business, and sustainability is something I'm continually learning about and improving.
I don't claim to have a perfect system or a completely impact-free business. What I can do is make thoughtful choices, avoid unnecessary waste and consider the life of a material before deciding what happens to it next.

BUY LESS. CHOOSE WELL.
KEEP THINGS. MAKE THEM BETTER.
